No More Excuses

One of the top three excuses (notice I said excuses, not reasons) that people don’t exercise, is that they say they don’t have  enough time. Oh please! Last I checked, we all had the same 24 hours a day, and YOU get to CHOOSE how you spend them. I know people with two jobs, families, church responsibilities and loads of other things on their plate and they find time to exercise. I know others who run their own (very successful) businesses, who travel extensively, who spend quality time with their families are very involved with their religious responsibilities and still find time to exercise. That’s just it- exercise is a priority- just like your religious views, family, work, schooling and hobbies. Where does it fall on your list? Is it in the top 5 or is it slummin’ down at the bottom?

No matter where exercise falls on your list, there are some easy ways to incorporate more exercise into your daily routine. Here are a few ideas:

Take the stairs instead of the elevator

Take a walk on your lunch break

Park in the back of the parking lot

Ride your bike or walk to the local grocery store

Buy a pedometer and try to hit 10,000 steps a day

Ride your bike to work

Play with your kids/grand kids -Basketball, baseball, soccer,  tag, jump rope, ride bikes…whatever! Just move and have fun!

Dance – Nope, I’m not kidding-  grab your honey (the kids love this one too)  and bust a move! You don’t even have to leave the house, just turn on some music and shake your booty! Burn tons of calories and  have loads of fun too!

Family/Couple activities- Could be a walk through the neighborhood, a bike ride or a hike.

In short, you don’t have  to have an extra three hours  in order to exercise. In most cases, taking a minute to look at where you are spending your time every day, at least an hour of your day can be found that could be better spent (like maybe, exercising). All you have to do, is move your body. Everything we do burns calories to one degree or another. The more we move, the more we burn. So, get out there and move! Find something that you enjoy, because if you don’t enjoy it you won’t stick with it, and do it!
