“Fit At Forty!!!” That was my goal to try to take the edge off turning the big 4-0, but where could I find someone to help me accomplish those goals? I found Laura Butters. Laura not only put together a custom program that was tailor- made to my needs, but inspired me daily with her incredible story of transformation in her own life. We work hard, laugh and just enjoy every minute of our sessions together. Long story short, here I am at 40….honestly in the best shape of my life, and I couldn’t have done it without my personal trainer and now one of my closest friends.  Thanks again for everything Laura!

Gyms always made me nervous, from the intimidating equipment to the other patrons. I used any excuse to run back out! I never finished my full reps, did damage to my back and never made any progress from my little attempts. When I heard about Laura and the journey she went through to lose weight, I knew she could help me. She shows me the correct form, gives me motivation and has actually (dare I say) made me really enjoy working out. My energy has gone up, I sleep much better and I am losing inches. Laura is very supportive and knows every exercise in and out. She is amazingly thorough and I am very lucky to have her as my personal trainer!

I have been exercising and going to the gym for years, but I never used any of the weight machines. I was afraid I would use them wrong or, worse, hurt myself. Once Laura started working with me as a trainer, I not only learned the proper way to use the machines, but she taught me proper form to get the most benefit from my workout. Having her there helped me push past my comfort zone and reach new levels of fitness and health. She has a great way of motivating her clients to reach their fitness goals.

I’ve got to be honest, as a 25 year old guy I was a little skeptical at first about having a female trainer. In the past few months I have had better results than I ever had in years of exercising by myself! Laura is great! She honestly cares about the person that she is training and she REALLY knows her stuff! I have people ask me every day if it’s really worth it to have a trainer, if it really makes a difference… My answer is yes! I plan on having Laura as my trainer for as long as I can!

I have lost over 30 lbs training with Laura. She always keeps me motivated. She changes the workouts as often as I need so that I stay challenged and don’t get bored. Laura is always positive and encouraging. She designs workouts to fit the individual and is willing to train at the client’s availability. You can tell by her attitude that she loves her job. Laura is the best trainer I’ve ever had.

Laura is a great trainer! I came to Laura with no experience with weight training. Since working with Laura, I now feel comfortable with weight training. I have been very pleased with my results! Laura is very good at communicating with her clients and answering questions they may have. All of these qualities make Laura an excellent personal trainer! I would highly recommend her to anyone!

As an overweight, out- of-shape 58 year old with health problems, I didn’t have high expectations of ever getting fit. That is until I met Laura Butters. Laura took careful notes on my health and fitness history and then developed a program just for me. She even knew the exact range of motion I could do without exacerbating my knee problems!  Every time I work with her, I learn something new and I always come away from our sessions with renewed enthusiasm fueled by her encouragement. I know through continued work with Laura, I will be able to reach my fitness goals. Thank you, Laura Butters!

I joined the South Jordan Recreation Center in November, 2009 after completing a physical therapy program due to a back injury and arthroscopic surgery on both of my knees. At the completion of the therapy my doctor recommended I develop a exercise program to continue improving my physical condition. A friend recommended that I join the center since they have all the equipment and facilities needed for an exercise program.

When I first visited the Center I felt that, at age 80, the only things I would be likely to use were at the walking track and possibly the swimming pool. The thought of using the different types of exercise equipment they have was somewhat daunting to me since I had never before used any of them, and I would very likely injure myself. When talking with some of the members of the Center it was suggested I consider using a Trainer to assist me in developing an exercise program. I learned that Laura Butters is a Certified Trainer for the Center. I contacted her and we discussed a program she would develop that I could follow. After talking to her I felt very confident I would be able to complete the program she recommended, and I am now very happy that I made that decision to do so. I know train with Laura twice a week, and I plan to continue with her until she feels that I am competent to continue on my own.

It is such a pleasure training with Laura because she is a very positive and enthusiastic person, and it is very evident that she really enjoys helping her clients. I look forward to each new session with her, and I am amazed at how much better I have felt since I started my training. I am extremely appreciative of her expertise and skills and training me without exceeding my current capabilities.

I am very grateful for the help Laura is giving me, and I sincerely recommend that anyone considering using a Trainer contact her at the South Jordan Recreation Center. I am positive you will not find a more competent, knowledgeable, and skilled professional Trainer.

Phenomenal is an understatement when it comes to Laura. I honestly can’t speak highly enough of her! She’s literally (and I don’t mean figuratively) the best!

Initially, my motivations for hiring a personal trainer were purely vanity. (I wanted to look good in a bathing suit, so sue me!) But since working with Laura, “looking good” has been just a side effect. I never realized the massive return on investment you get when it comes to fitness and weight training. Yes, I have lost weight, gained strength, and have more energy from training with Laura… but honestly… those are all just added bonuses. For me, weight training has become an absolute blessing in disguise.

Before working with Laura, I wanted to give up. I felt like I had failed my body. Because I felt like my body had failed me. I felt like my body had betrayed me:

When I was 19, I suffered a stroke due to a heart defect that was never discovered. I’m sure my poor diet, sleeping habits (or lack thereof), and intense college curriculum didn’t’ help either. Shit happens. I’ll spare you the nitty gritty of post stroke symptoms, but the main thing they brief you on is that once you’ve got nerve damage…. You MIGHT improve…. But you’ll never be the same. You’ll never recover completely. Damage is typically permanent. Inspiring, right?

Fast forward a few years:

Out of shape, out of options, and out of desperation; I decided to look into personal training. Whether by sheer luck or serendipity, I came across Laura’s personal training profile and decided to give it a shot. Best. Decision. Ever! During my consultation with Laura, I expressed my goals and expectations… and included my medical past and limitations due to the nerve damage, paralysis, and other post stroke nonsense ain’t nobody got time for.

The thing I love about Laura is how authentic she is. She’s so approachable and you feel like she genuinely cares about your fitness goals and ambitions. I mean, she’s been there… done that! I felt completely confident in her ability to get me where I wanted to go, even with my physical limitations.

Laura makes it very simple to achieve your fitness goals. The operative word being simple… Because her training is anything but easy! Laura is tough love… Which is exactly what I needed! The workouts were always intense, but so much fun! Laura has a way with motivation. She pushes you to do your best. I got my sweat on every session and I always felt like she cared about my safety and comfort level with every routine. She’s got a great formula for success.

I got in the best shape of my life working with Laura. Physically AND emotionally! I can’t imagine being where I am today without her. And as far as rehab goes: Laura did more for me in 6 months than 6 years of hard work and physical therapy ever did! How can you put a price tag on something that gives you a new lease on life!? Working with Laura not only changed my life, but improved it immeasurably. I’ll never be able to thank her enough for what she has done for me.

Not only do I look better, but I feel better. I’m so much more confident. I’m able to walk with a more even gait. I have regained much of the balance I had as a dancer. The nerve pain and weakness is far less severe. I have feeling in my toes again! I’m even starting to wear heels again! HEELS, for crying in the night!

As cliché as this may sound; my only regret is not working with Laura sooner. She’s amazing at what she does.

Thank you, Laura! Because I knew you, I have been changed for good!
